Anti Spyware software looks for suspicious
files when a 'scan' is performed on your PC. As you may have
guessed, scans of this type should be done on a regular basis.
For anti spyware software to work effectively
it needs to know how to recognise a spyware file. This is
done by using spyware definitions. These are stored in a special
file that tells the anti spyware software what to look for
when performing a scan of your PC.
As new spyware files
are created almost daily, these

definitions need to be updated regularly. This
can be done automatically or manually.
Your anti spyware software uses the Internet and
gets an updated definition file from the supplier website.
As the scan for spyware progresses, suspicious
files are listed. At the end of the scan you are given the opportunity
to flag those you'd like to delete.
Since spyware does not usually change existing
files, like a virus might, you should be able to delete all the
spyware listed in the scan.
If in doubt, please consult the help file of your
spyware application.
